The Jigsaw Murder
29th January 2019A Bloody Mess – How Bloodstain Pattern Analysis works
31st May 2019The spate of killings in Ipswich, Suffolk, at the end of the year 2006 caught the attention of the world’s media. A serial killer went on the rampage, targeting prostitutes in the Ipswich area, leaving one of the country’s smallest police forces to investigate. As the bodies kept being discovered within days of each other, the media interest mushroomed and the pressure on the Suffolk Constabulary to catch the murderer increased dramatically.
The prime suspect, Steve Wright, was identified just three days after the first land-based bodies were found. His DNA profile was obtained from body fluid/DNA that was recovered from all three naked victims’ body, which was found in the woods. Further blood and DNA was later recovered from the suspect’s home, clothing, gardening gloves and car.
The six weeks trial took place at Ipswich Crown Court in Jan/Feb 2008 where Dr Hau gave crucial scientific evidence to help secure five guilty verdicts. Steve Wright received five life sentences for the murder of the five victims.
